Maybe it was the florette. Maybe. I've never written one before, and was determined to at least *try*.
So. Insecurity. We all feel insecure right. Do superheroes ever feel insecure?
And somewhere in the back of my brain, Charlie Daniels' immortal classic, 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia' floated up and I thought, heeeeeeey, after being beaten by a mere mortal fiddler...
So this is my take on Insecurity - with apologies to the Charlie Daniels Band.
For those of you who don't know the song, it's here with lyrics.
What makes this actually even funnier is that there is a sequel to this song called 'The Devil Goes Back To Georgia' with Charlie Daniels as the Devil and the amazing Mark O'Connor as Johnny. I guess the Devil didn't win his battle with insecurity after all...
DAY 3: THE DEVIL SIX MONTHS AFTER GEORGIA
I’ve
checked my goldarned fiddle strings
I’ve
practiced scales and fingerings
Twelve
dozen times a day or more.
I’m
better than I was before – and still nothing’s
Right.
Johnny, that be-blasted pest!
Thinking
about him gets me stressed.
My
confidence has up and left -
I live on
tenterhooks, bereft of all my rest.
Skill I
have but he’s much better!
Battered
ego – how I suffer!
How can a
mortal play so well?
So this
is what is meant by ‘hell’ – brainfarts scatter
Any logical
sound or sense
When Johnny’s
mentioned. I get tense.
This
idiocy must stop right now!
I am the
Devil not a cow – stop being dense!

Oh my goodness. This is awesome.
This was absolutely what I needed in a poem today. Beautifully done. I wasn't up for attempting the Florette today, hopefully later. Very fun idea.
I love the inventiveness and lightheartedness of it. Must go look for the rematch out there.
Thank you so much Maria! Yes the florette was a biiiig challenge, I threw out my first attempt after futility for an hour. I'm so glad ot made you smile. I can't wait to see your florette when it's ready!
Jade, thank you so much! Here's the rematch, it's wonderful!

Thank you Esther! I'm so glad you like it!
Oh i skipped the florette cause it reversed the idea I had for the poem. You totally got it though. The self talk of the devil was humorous!
Thank you so much! The florette kicked my butt hard - glad it worked for you!
